On To Victory ran another cracking race, this time in defeat, when going down by a neck and a short-head in to third place in a decent handicap at Newbury on Thursday 6th July. We were asking a lot of him to come out just a week after his win at Salisbury on contrasting ground conditions and the race turned out to be run at a false pace, which all conspired against him. He is a super 3 year old handicapper and will now be freshened up for Glorious Goodwood where there is a nice 3 year old handicap for him on Wednesday 2nd August, the second day of the five day meeting.
He is proving to be a revelation, being in the first three in all his starts to date this year. He started the season with a good second over 7 furlongs at Kempton and followed this with an easy success over a mile at Leicester. He has always been bred to get middle distances and was unlucky when stepped up to a mile and a quarter not to have taken the spoils at Sandown, as he met interference at a crucial stage in the last 300 yards. However, he made amends with an impressive win in the Bibury Cup, the feature race at Salisbury on Wednesday 28th June. This was a competitive contest and the step up in distance to a mile and a half he forged clear in the final furlong.
