ON TO VICTORY PUTS IN A GOOD ROUND OF JUMPING TO WIN AT WINCANTON
On To Victory put in as good a round of jumping as you will see for a novice at Wincanton. His form figures with failing to complete three of his last six starts did not read well, but he has masses of ability. Tom Cannon always had him in the first four or five and he travelled well throughout the race and we thought, jumping as he did, if he jumped the last safely it would just be a formality, but he had a real fight on his hands and the second horse, Iron Mike, harried him all the way to the line and he just hung on for a nose.
On To Victory had taken a heavy fall at the second last at Kempton on Boxing Day and at least this race proved that his confidence had not been affected. He had schooled extremely well at Alan King’s earlier on in the week.
This useful horse will now be targeted at the Betfair Hurdle at Newbury on Saturday February 13th, where he will be down at the bottom of the handicap, but it will be a very competitive and big field.
