Our Northumberland Plate hero Who Dares Wins ran another tremendous race in the ultra-competitive Marsh Cup at Newbury. He was giving weight to nearly all the field, bar the winner, and bearing in mind he was giving over a stone to the second and his stable-mate and admirable sparring partner Couer De Lyon, he put up a truly fantastic performance just missing out on third place by a nose. Who Dares Wins was running off an all time high rating, as indeed he was in the Northumberland Plate as well, but in Saturday’s event he was up 3lb and still managed to confirm Newcastle form with Proschema (third at Newcastle, 6th here) and Royal Ascot Stakes winner The Grand Visir back in 7th. Chester Cup winner Making Miracles was again way behind him back in 14th and Carnwennan, winner of the Northumberland Vase consolation race when he beat, of course, Couer De Lyon, was also way back in 15th place.
